Acupuncture for Musculoskeletal & Nerve Pain

Musculoskeletal pain refers to a pain in the musculoskeletal system that includes the muscles, the bones, the joints, ligaments and tendons. Nerve pain refers to a pain that is caused by a problem in the nervous system.

Common conditions that cause nerve pain are neuralgia and shingles. Musculoskeletal and nerve pain can sometimes cross over as in some cases the pain in a muscle or a joint can originate from a nerve problem.

Acupuncture is the best treatment available for the alleviation and cure of the above types of pain. Much scientific research has been done to try and explain how acupuncture is working so effectively in alleviating pain. There is some scientific understanding now about the effects of Acupuncture on the nervous system and the pain pathway. More research is needed but the important thing is that, with or without the understanding of the scientific mechanism behind the work of Acupuncture, we can’t argue with the results. Any type of musculoskeletal or nerve pain, whether it is back or neck pain, joint or a muscle, neuralgia or shingles – Acupuncture is the treatment of choice.

As is always the case in Acupuncture treatment, we are not aiming just to ease the pain. In most cases, after a successful course of treatment, we aim for a long term improvement. Usually there will be no need to keep on coming for treatments to ease the pain as after the problem has improved it does not tend to come back.
