Project Description

Acupuncture Clinic in the East Midlands

The practice of Acupuncture is thought to have begun with the discovery that the stimulation of specific areas on the skin affects the functioning of certain organs in the body.

Over the last two thousand years it has developed into a system of medicine that restores and maintains health by the insertion of fine needles into specific points in the body. Through inserting the needles in specific points we can improve the flow of the Qi (the Life Energy), the Circulation, the Immune system and the function of the organs in the body. As a result of these being improved the person will restore his health and wellbeing.

Acupuncture was introduced to the Western world in the early seventies, and since then its great potential in the treatment of disease has gained an ever-growing recognition in the West. Today, it is widely used with great success to treat a variety of conditions as diverse as musculoskeletal pain, anxiety and skin disease.

WHAT DOES A TREATMENT CONSIST OF?

During the first treatment, Ilan Shahor will go through your medical history with questions, discussion and physical examination. Together, you will discuss all aspects of your condition.

A treatment can take forty-five minutes to an hour and a quarter, and will consist of the insertion, to certain relevant points, of fine sterile needles which will be left for twenty to thirty minutes. In certain cases, simple relaxation techniques and / or herbal medicine will be used in conjunction with acupuncture in order to strengthen the effect of the treatment.

The length of the course of treatments varies from one person to another; you become unravelled from your state of ill health at your own speed. On average you will need six to ten treatments but the number varies greatly according to the nature of the condition being treated, its severity and – as stated before – the individual response. The aim of the treatment is to enable you to become well and stay well.

WHAT WILL THE TREATMENT BE LIKE?

In the hands of a qualified and experienced Practitioner, acupuncture is almost painless. The needles used are extremely fine. While the needle is manipulated, the patient may feel a sensation of local pressure or pins and needles, but most patients describe this sensation as minimal. The points that are used are tailored to each individuals condition and are aimed to restore your health. Most people at our Hinckley and Leicester clinics find acupuncture treatment very relaxing.

SPECALISED ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENTS

In addition to the traditional Acupuncture, Dr Ilan Shahor has specialized in other forms of Chinese Acupuncture, including: Electro Acupuncture Cupping; Scalp Acupuncture; Abdominal Acupuncture; Tung Acupuncture and Bleeding (Fang Xue).
